Want to know where the dirty money is which is helping to make GMO labeling illegal?

Shockingly, or perhaps not to the individuals who have been observing the biotech charade, house members who voted to keep the public from knowing what is in their food in the latest land-slide win for Big Food supporters of The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015 (known to its critics as the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know Act)) were paid three times as much as representatives who voted to give us the right to label or ban GMO foods.

It seems odd that the bill would float through Congress so easily with a 275 to 150 vote when so many Americans have expressed a wish to have their food labeled. The Center for Food safety says that 93% of Americans want their food labeled if it contains GM ingredients. And that is just one of many surveys showing similar results:

Surveys repeatedly show that 80 percent to 95 percent of people want foods that contain genetically modified organisms to be labeled (in the least). Here is a simple breakdown of some reported polls on consumer demand for GMO labeling:

• The New York Times: 93% found to be in support of labeling GMOs

• MSNBC: 96% in support

• Reuters/NPR: 93% in support of full labeling

• Washington Post: 95% in support of full labeling

• Consumer Reports: 95% agree GM animals should be labeled

• ABC News: 93% want federal GM labeling mandate

They are one of the biggest retailers of these products and the UK-based Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and the Humane Society International (HSI) called on Japan's biggest online retailer to stop selling the items.
 
Many of the products this company sells derive from the demise of species of whale that have been protected since 1986 under the moratorium on commercial whaling established by the International Whaling Commission. The species receive the highest level of protection by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, which prohibits international trade. Rakuten headquarters in Japan is asked to ban all ads offering ivory and whale products immediately. However, the company is not responding to demands and continues to promote these products of protected species.

Rakuten says they are committed to protecting the environment yet they also say that the sale of whale meat and ivory cast doubt on their commitment to sustainability. They are affecting the environment by demanding the demise of these animals that are threatened and endangered in order to get the ivory from elephants and the whale meat to sell for monetary gain!!

This is unheard of.  They are a Being of great beauty, mate for life and have been tested to have the memory equal to the Elephant.  For many years now they have been destroying their eggs to keep the population down.  This is enough!  To kill them all is beyond words. We are sick over this.

White House ‘We the People’ petitions unanswered two years later - GMOs Petition Still Not Answered

The Obama administration has touted the White House website’s ‘We the People’ section as a powerful platform for the American public to petition their government. According to a new report, however, those solicitations are all too rarely acknowledged.

“When I ran for this office, I pledged to make government more open and accountable to its citizens,” United States President Barack Obama wrote on WhiteHouse.gov back in September 2011. He was unveiling at the time the website’s new ‘We the People’ feature, and said the addition of it would be “giving Americans a direct line to the White House on the issues and concerns that matter most to them.”
 
“Soon, anyone will be able to create or sign a petition at WhiteHouse.gov seeking action from the federal government on a range of issues,” senior advisor David Plouffe added at the time. “If a petition gathers enough signatures, the White House staff will review it, make sure it gets to Obama Administration policy experts and issue an official response.”
 
But 27 months later, an investigation conducted by federal technology site NextGov has revealed that many of the petitions that have met the criteria needed for a response have been long ignored by the administration — including at least one that’s been in limbo for over two years.

“There are currently 30 We the People petitions that have crossed the threshold for an official White House reply but not yet gotten one, including eight that have been waiting more than one year,” Joseph Marks wrote for NextGov on Thursday this week.

Every so often I stick my toe in the deep end of “popular” culture just to gauge its relevance.  Feeling especially reckless, I may go as deep as to read the Reddit comments or listen to call in AM radio shows. In the midst of one such dip today, a sudden thought appeared “We are already living on more than one earth.”

I’ve been holding out for one catalyzing event and a split.  What I see today are many splits and multiple events.  Perhaps we’ll all experience a singular, life altering moment, yet right now we are in the midst of a seamless, rapid, inescapable shift.  I’ve crossed over and there is no going back.

Violent conversations about the adultery of Clinton vs. the sexting of Weiner hold no fascination.  I am not afraid of our government or law enforcement system, I am outraged.  I no longer hold any definition of a “good” person – I see us all as One.  Good or bad hold no meaning in regards to a person’s value.
