President Obama Tells College Students To Reject Voices That Warn About Government Tyranny

A major article in this morning's newspaper tells of Obama giving a college graduation speech yesterday in which he said,

“Unfortunately, you've grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that's at the root of all our problems. Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They'll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices.” Obama

When I read this two thoughts occurred to me. Firstly, Gandhi’s statement that, “First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.” Secondly, the scene from The Wizard of Oz in which the God like voice says, “Don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain.” For Obama to recognize that there are warnings of tyranny suggests to me that the Boston Bombing has greatly increased the number of awake Americans. ~ Jim Costa
