Revisit: Sinead O'Connor Rips Up Picture Of Pope & Says "Fight The Real Enemy" on SNL Broadcast Live

War - Sinéad O'CONNOR ( a cappella) on TV in 1992 by Petite-Pince-Sans-Rire

Long before it became common knowledge that the Catholic Church supports and covers up child abuse and child rape, Sinead O'Connor shocked the world by calling out the Pope as the leader of an evil organization on The sketch comedy/music TV show Saturday Night Live.

The audience, in disbelief, was silent as her last note fell and she ripped up a photo of the pontiff.

She was lambasted in the press, and even pop-fame-machine Madonna found a reason to insult and dismiss her in an effort to pander to a nation that was not yet ready to know the truth about the RCC.

Years later, we would all find out just why Sinead was so angry.
