The Largest Picture Ever Made: 1.5 Billion Pixels of the Andromeda Galaxy

Video: NASA Just Released An Epic: The Largest Picture Ever Made....

Posted By: Watchman

It’s almost better than spotting an alien.

NASA just released an image to end all images. At 1.5 billion pixels, the epic photograph above of the Andromeda Galaxy requires 4.3GB of disk space just to be saved. That’s probably because the image was created from a mosaic of 411 other Hubble telescope pictures.

We really meant it when we said “epic.”

Even though Andromeda is our nearest galactic neighbor, the place is an astounding 2.5 million light years away. Yet experts say on clear nights, you can still see it, unaided, from Earth. But really, who has time to squint at the sky and look for it? That’s why we’re saving you the trouble. The video above takes you though a mind-blowing journey across the whole galaxy, all just by using the massive image.

Just don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for any little green men. Because you never know!
