The Sun Just Erupted The Biggest Solar Flare in 12 Years and it Has Affected Earth

The sun has just erupted in an absolutely massive solar flare, so big that it knocked out radio comms here on Earth.

Actually, it spat out two X-class flares, on the morning of 6 September EDT. These are the biggest class of solar flare there is, and the largest explosions in our solar system, with loops of plasma tens of times the size of the Earth.

The first one came in at X2.2 at 5.10am EDT. Then, just a few hours later at 8.03am, it dropped an absolutely monster X9.3 flare, the largest since 2005. You can watch the resulting coronal mass ejection in the gif below.

Both flares erupted from an active region called AR 2673, which also produced an M-class flare a few days ago. Of the two sunspot regions currently active, both flares came from the smaller – a size of just 7 Earths by 9 Earths.

NASA
NASA, of course, is leading the game. Their NASA TV will broadcast live footage from their “eclipse jets” on many different platforms: YouTube, Periscope, Twitch, and Facebook Live. They will also have a live stream called NASA EDGE. The stream starts at 12PM ET.

National Geographic
Starting at 12:30 PM ET, National Geographic will be broadcasting on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. In addition to having astronauts and astrophysicists answer viewer questions, they’re sending a photographer in a plane over the Pacific to try to capture the first image.

CNN
CNN is hosting a live show called CNN’s Eclipse of the Century, featuring astronaut Mark Kelly. This will be a 360-degree live stream from multiple locations. It begins at 12PM ET. (You can also watch on the network’s Facebook page.)

Discovery's Science Channel
The Science Channel will be in Oregon broadcasting the eclipse, with footage from around the country and even some footage from the International Space Station. The show will be hosted by astronaut Mike Massimino, all the way from Charleston.

The event begins at 1PM ET and ends at 3PM ET. It will feature 12 reports from locations in the “path of totality,” starting in Oregon and ending in Charleston.

Planet Nine - the undiscovered planet at the edge of the solar system that was predicted by the work of Caltech's Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown in January 2016 - appears to be responsible for the unusual tilt of the Sun, according to a new study. The large and distant planet may be adding a wobble to the solar system, giving the appearance that the Sun is tilted slightly.

"Because Planet Nine is so massive and has an orbit tilted compared to the other planets, the solar system has no choice but to slowly twist out of alignment," says Elizabeth Bailey, a graduate student at Caltech and lead author of a study announcing the discovery.
All of the planets orbit in a flat plane with respect to the Sun, roughly within a couple degrees of each other. That plane, however, rotates at a six-degree tilt with respect to the Sun - giving the appearance that the Sun itself is cocked off at an angle. Until now, no one had found a compelling explanation to produce such an effect.

"It's such a deep-rooted mystery and so difficult to explain that people just don't talk about it," says Brown, the Richard and Barbara Rosenberg Professor of Planetary Astronomy.

This UFO was found by MyUnhauzen74 of Youtube. He keeps an eye on SOHO images and videos and posts videos of his discoveries almost daily. Here he has found a UFO that has a beam moving toward a small round UFO closer to the suns surface. The beam may be a weapon, but I believe its a tractor beam to pull the UFO away from the sun. These smaller UFOs may be harvesting drones that gather a particular type of energy and then deliver it to the mothership for transporting. Do you notice the small round UFO that is in the lower part of the beam? This is evidence to that theory.
